blanche: album info
With what I've learned and applied to my music production over "Amelioration" and "Meridiem", I felt like using all that but just having as much fun with the music as possible, so that's what I did with Blanche!
The opening track, USBA, is stupidly elegant and botanical but filled with little stabby changes that offput the feeling for a bit, until finally the drop breaks in, shifting the song in a completely different direction. I made the song in one sitting that lasted a couple of hours, and then continued to refine the sound of it as I kept working on the album. As I'm writing this I plan to make a music video for the song, but all I have is very minimal storyboards and a bit of inspiration.
When I showed this song to my dad (via USB) just after that something-hour session I mentioned before, I'm pretty sure he thought it was about a USB because of the abbreviated title. I liked the acronym USBA too much to update the first word to "You".
The track titling scheme is very different on Blanche, I tried to make the titles sound like they'd be for a song containing lyrics, and just not be as vague overall. Ironically, the song with lyrics is titled "Elsewhere". Yes, I continued the "-here" closer tradition, but I don't think I would've been able to come up with an original "Elsewhere" without wanting to cover the Lemon Demon song, so that's what I did. There's a pretty great song my dad made called "Anywhere", and I don't know what I'm gonna do with that. It's one of the only "-here" words left.
I think the fact that the first time I've sung on one of my albums is for 30 seconds in the final song is perfect. Unfortunately I still can't write lyrics that meet my own standards, so I'm unsure if this is gonna serve as a transition into more future lyrical songs or not.
